Good deeds on Loch Ness

On Saturday 13th October Jacobite Cruises are kindly donating the Jacobite Queen for the afternoon and 3 members of Jacobite staff - Donald, Rod and Jennifer - are donating their time to a project organised by Calman to help the homeless in the Highlands. This project is taking place at Lochend.

The project aims to involve young people from across the Highlands. These will be young people who are identified as likely to struggle in the transition towards independence - young tenants, young people who have been looked after by the local authority, young people who are not in education or training, young people living in isolated Highland communities, or young people who are simply interested in the idea.
Young people will be supported in the project by agencies from their own area, who will be invited to participate in the project. By involving a variety of agencies from across the Highlands the project will provide an opportunity to improve communication and joint working between agencies working with vulnerable young people as they work together to achieve a challenging goal.

The event will involve the planning and construction of a gigantic balloon monster which will be 60 meters long. A true monster, this will be the biggest balloon animal ever constructed. It will be unveiled at a public launch, where supporting agencies, the general public and the press will be invited to marvel at the monstrous construction.

Young people involved with the Calman service will cover additional support activities, each with a strong skill-development aspect – recording the event on film and in print, telling the story of the event to the Press, assisting with catering throughout the event and providing catering at the launch.
