Trekking in Chile

At the end of November our leader Freda and two friends are swapping the spectacular waters of Loch Ness for the diverse terrains of Chile in a bid to raise funds for young people with cancer. She is undertaking a challenging trek on horseback across this country of contrasts to raise awareness and of course, cash, for the valuable work of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

By day, they will traverse the Chilean foothills to the highest reaches of the Andes, spending up to seven hours in the saddle; by night, they will literally sleep under the stars – forget luxury canvas tents with en suite facilities, think ground mats and a campfire!

A few weeks ago while training for this trek with her horse Merlot, (named after the Chilian wine) Freda came a cropper landing on her backside (ouch) the outcome - a fractured pelvis in two places!! She has now made a remarkable recovery and is back in the saddle - where hopefully she will stay this time!!

A picture of "Merlot" after the event looking rather ashamed of himself!

If any of you out there have trekked through Chile or have any info or advice to give to our trekkers please let us know.
