Environmental Commitment

At Jacobite, the beauty of our natural environment is an integral part of our visitor experience. Therefore we encourage the conservation of our natural resources and promote effective environmental management procedures throughout the company.

We also actively encourage visitors to behave in a responsible manner and by following a few simple steps, every visitor can enjoy a better holiday experience and also play their part in conserving our natural environment, wildlife and cultural heritage. Our Aims and Objectives

  • We monitor energy consumption and encourage energy saving measures wherever possible

  • We promote environmental awareness as part of our staff training and induction

  • Wherever possible, we will choose suppliers that have an environmental policy

  • We will continue to investigate the provision of local recycling facilities and encourage Highland Council to provide sufficient recycling facilities throughout the Inverness area

  • We are hoping to include wildlife information in different languages in our local information material for next season

Initiatives and Actions

  • Ensure that computers, monitors and printers are switched off overnight

  • Use of Fair Trade products wherever possible. Fair Trade products ensure that disadvantaged producers in developing countries get a fair deal for their products. For details, please visit www.fairtrade.org

  • Use of 100% recycled paper for office and brochures

  • Minimise pollution by using biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning products

  • Provision of coach car park to encourage group transport

  • Provide details of public transport on our website and brochure

  • Prevent unnecessary use of private cars by providing staff transport to Clansman Harbour

  • Minimise waste by recycling paper, ink cartridges and old mobile phones

  • Reduce the use of paper by using e-mail instead of letters or fax

  • Save water by using non-drinking water for toilets on board our vessels

  • Provide spillage kits near fuel stores to prevent pollution

  • UV-system used to treat water supply at Clansman Harbour

 

Supporting the local environment

  • Introduction of new Wildlife Tour to Glen Affric in Summer 2007

  • We encourage local wildlife by providing bird boxes and a feeding station at the Clansman Harbour and Tomnahurich Bridge

  • A  beech hedge and lavender planted at Tomnahurich Bridge to provide living space for insects and birds

  • Encourage the use of local food and drink producers

  • Promote energy saving and recycling among staff at work and at home
