Although An Talla was launched in 2019, the history of our location goes back a lot further. The Caledonian Canal has been connecting Scotland for almost 200 years. Thomas Telford, the mastermind behind the huge project, is a world renowned Scottish civil engineer. He designed and built many bridges and canals across the UK, but he’s most famous for his work on the Caledonian Canal which was key in helping to accelerate growth of trade and commerce in the Scottish Highlands.
Thomas Telford’s legacy is woven throughout An Talla. An Talla, Gaelic for ‘gathering place’, is our café and shop destination at Dochgarroch Lock. We know the Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so you can relax knowing that we provide seating options both indoors and outdoors.
Whether you’re looking for locally crafted souvenirs or savouring a menu featuring regional ingredients, An Talla is the place to find unique keepsakes and make lasting memories with your loved ones.
