Our 50th anniversary celebrations are well underway, and we’re kicking off the year by supporting incredible local causes. Our January Charity of the Month was MERT Highland, and we were proud to donate £500 to support their lifesaving work.
Each month throughout the year, the Jacobite team will select a charity to receive a donation and a platform to raise awareness both on-site and across our social media channels. It’s our way of giving back to the community that has supported us over the past five decades.
MERT Highland (Medical & Emergency Response Team) provides vital pre-hospital care at events and in emergencies, helping to ease pressure on ambulances and A&E. They plan to use the donation towards a second truck, allowing them to assist even more people across the Highlands.
This cause is particularly close to the heart of An Talla café assistant Anita MacDonald, who nominated MERT Highland. She first encountered the charity when she collapsed due to low blood sugar during a night out in Inverness. The MERT team stepped in to help, and from that moment, Anita knew she wanted to give back.
Now a MERT volunteer and Trustee, Anita shared:
“MERT Highland covers events big and small, from Belladrum to the Loch Ness Marathon, and provides welfare support for vulnerable people during extreme weather. Being a small team of volunteers, we’re delighted to have been Jacobite’s first Charity of the Month in this very special year. Thank you to Jacobite and all the customers who are donating – it means so much to us.”
